Boyd H. McGathey's Bio:

Boyd H. McGathey - Bio Throughout his career, Boyd McGathey has been a catalyst for positive change, leading companies through challenging markets, and driving record-breaking results. With experience across nearly every functional area, and in startup, turnaround, M&A, restructuring, and expansion environments, he is able to quickly identify issues and define strategies that solve problems, propel revenue, differentiate the brand, and create strong competitive advantage.   In his most recent role as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Ferrellgas, Boyd was recruited to turn around the organization, which was underperforming in many areas and needed innovative new strategies to boost revenue, profit, market share, and employee engagement. Boyd delivered 3 consecutive years of record financial results, transformed the entire field operating model, and increased cash flow in excess of 88%, with an 85% increase in gross profit margins. Boyd freed millions of dollars in operating expense through operating efficiencies that, among other cost savings, enabled the company to decrease the size of their fleet by 800 trucks.   Prior to joining Ferrellgas, Boyd was President of Inergy's Western Division, a role he was given after they acquired Liberty Propane, where he was recruited as a Partner and Chief Operating Officer. When he joined Liberty Propane in 2005, they were generating $10 million in annual revenue and on pace to achieve only 40% of their projected revenue target for the year. Under his leadership, the organization grew organically and through strategic acquisitions to $140 million in annual revenue and became the ninth-largest propane company in the United States prior to their acquisition by Inergy.   Before that, Boyd was General Manager of ADT Security Services, Inc. in Kansas City, where he provided the strategies, resources, training, and leadership that were key in exceeding revenue and margin targets. He was selected as the #1 Sales and Installation Manager in the region, earned ADT's Club Excellence Award and was recognized with the parent company's (TYCO) Circle of Management Excellence Award for gains in revenue-per-user, increased efficiency, improvements in sales and close rates, as well as growth in customer retention and savings in overhead costs.   From 1989 to 2001, Boyd held multiple positions with Ferrellgas, beginning as Retail Analyst and moving quickly through the ranks to District Manager, Region Vice President, Vice President and COO, and Senior Vice President of Administration and Chief Information Officer. During his tenure with the company, he shaved more than $8 million from operating expense by implementing the company's first point of sale and route optimization technology, creating the strategy and framework for what would later be called the corporate "Renaissance Project", a $200 million operational and technology improvement initiative designed to increase efficiency, reduce costs, improve customer retention, strengthen employee engagement, and drive top- and bottom-line contribution.   Boyd began his professional career with Purolater Courier Corporation (acquired by Emery Worldwide), as a Courier, then Sales Representative, and was quickly promoted to a Service Supervisor, City Service Manager, and Senior City Service Manager. Boyd was promoted to the role of City Service Manager in Detroit, Michigan where he delivered strong financial performance and was able to defeat a plan to unionize the organization. While in that role, the company was acquired, and Boyd participated in the integration of operations in Detroit. The new senior leadership team then asked him to lead the integration in Washington, D.C. after several others had failed. Boyd successfully led the post-merger integration of four facilities, increased efficiencies, and improved service levels by 45%, 13% above company standards.   Boyd served in the United States Marine Corps from 1976 to 1979 and studied Business Administration at Belleville Area College in Belleville, Illinois after being honorably discharged. He is a certified Six Sigma Green Belt. Boyd serves the  Board of Directors of the Kansas City Metropolitan Crime Commission, Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers, the Surviving Spouse and Family Endowment Fund (SAFE), the Platte County Sheriff’s Children’s Foundation, the National Propane Gas Association, and the International Young Gassers Association.
